Cliffy is a legitimate 17 hands tall. He is a powerfully built, substantial boy with a huge stride and enormous power and scope. Cliffy was recently started under saddle and is
w-t-c under saddle. He has tons of miles of hacking out on area roads and through pastures and woods. He is absolutely fun and completely reliable when riding out; he is used to traffic, dogs, livestock, wildlife and willingly crosses ditches and small creeks. Because of his young age (not 4 until mid-July), large size and lack of physical maturity he has not yet started jumping under saddle, but he shows excellent willingness and ability in the free-jumping chute. Incidentally he is also broke to drive and has been driven several times. He loads and travels like a pro, cross-ties, stands for the farrier and vet, and is happy living in or out. Currently turns out in a mixed group of horses with no problems. Cliffy’s pedigree is packed with successful jumpers and he is an excellent jumper prospect for the serious amateur or professional.
Cliffhanger's sire is the now-deceased Holsteiner stallion Campesino. Campesino (Capitol I/ Sacramento Song) is approved and licensed by the German Holsteiner Verband. He was the only son of the legendary foundation sire, Capitol I, standing in North America with that distinction. In addition to Campesino, Capitol I is the sire of Cassini I & II, Calato, Carthago, Dobel's Cento, Clearway, Indoctro, Carolus I & II, Cardento and other international and Olympic showjumpers.
Campesino is a Grand Prix winner himself, and is the sire of former World Cup horse (and current Hunter Derby contestant) Carlos Boy (long listed for the 2008 Olympics) as well as numerous international showjumpers and Verband approved mares. He is the sire of Bundeschampionat foals and US born Premium Foals, including the highest scoring foal on the 2007 RPSI North American Approvals Tour.
Cliffhanger's dam, Apache Peak was a succesful jumper herself, earning top ribbons at such large shows as WEF. She is by the legendary Galoubet who has produced many internationally successful jumpers, including Baloubet du Rouet. Her damline traces back to Marlon xx, one of the most influential Holsteiner sires of all time; termed a "sire of the century". She has produced multiple premium foals and her oldest offspring is just starting his career in the hunter ring.
Cliffhanger was inspected and registered w/Oldenburg NA on 9/12/09. Although this registry does not score yearlings, Cliffy received high praise from the inspector. Among the comments were "Large colt, beautiful top-line, very correct in the legs, good joints and excellent neck".
Already USEF Lifetime registered.
Under-saddle video was taken during his first time being ridden in an indoor arena. Free-jumping video is from Cliffy’s 3rd session in the chute.
